Grove Academy Head Teacher Personal Statement

Creativity underpins the vision and ethos of Chestnut Grove Academy and it is enshrined in our motto ‘A Creative Learning Community’. Underpinning our motto is our mantra ‘PROUD’ which reflects our values of Positive, Resilience, Open-minded, Unified and Determined. I am proud to offer our students a rich curriculum which provides them with a wealth of opportunities to explore the Arts as well as the full range of academic subjects. I firmly believe that creativity in the curriculum can only serve to increase academic achievement. This combination of tradition and innovation works well for us and our students.

Academic excellence is the foundation of a Chestnut Grove education. We achieve some outstanding examination results, with students making excellent progress at both GCSE and A Level. This has enabled a record number of our students to gain entry into the University of their choice, with many heading off to Russell Group universities including Oxbridge.

When students join Chestnut Grove they become part of a vibrant and cohesive community where the child’s social development is valued just as much as his or her academic development. An effective pastoral system supports students and gives them a strong sense of belonging. Chestnut Grove is the proud winner of the 2016 Accord inclusivity award which commended the school for its inclusive approach to RE and PSHE education. We do not shy away from controversial issues and believe in preparing our students adequately for adulthood so that they can make a positive contribution. Whilst academic achievement is of the upmost importance, we are committed to educating the whole child and we are confident that we achieve this effectively.

Chestnut Grove has recently undergone a multi-million pound building programme which has provided staff and students with a modern building and facilities. Chestnut Grove is also proud to be part of the Wandle Learning Trust.

Why Chestnut Grove?

When staff  join Chestnut Grove they are joining a vibrant and forward thinking community which will challenge and support them in equal measure. Our staff’s well-being and morale is of the utmost importance to us. We offer a comprehensive professional development programme through the Wandle Teaching School Alliance which enables staff to progress professionally; many middle and senior leaders started at the school as NQTs. Our Staff Association organises termly events for all staff, as well as opportunities to get together in the staff football team, choir, quiz nights and an array of other socials.
